Description

St Helena Government serves a close‑knit community in one of the world’s most extraordinary settings. As a UK Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic, the island combines a rich heritage, striking natural environment and strong sense of community with an ambitious vision for the future. Government plays a central role in island life, delivering essential services while driving sustainable growth and improving opportunities for all.

We are at a pivotal moment. Education, skills and employment are central to unlocking economic growth, strengthening resilience and improving life chances. With a clear commitment to investing in people and building a future‑ready workforce, this is a rare opportunity to shape meaningful, system‑wide impact—where leadership is visible and outcomes are tangible.

The Director of Education, Skills & Employment is a key Executive‑level role, leading a broad and influential portfolio spanning education, skills development and employment services. You will set strategic direction and drive delivery across the system—from early years through to lifelong learning and workforce participation—ensuring a coherent, inclusive and high‑performing offer.

Working closely with Ministers and senior colleagues, you will lead improvement in educational outcomes, strengthen teaching and leadership capability, and align skills provision with the island’s economic priorities. You will foster strong partnerships across government, employers and the community to create clear, accessible pathways into employment and lifelong opportunity.

This is a rare chance to lead whole‑system transformation in a highly connected environment. You will bring a strong track record of leadership within education, skills or employment, with the ability to deliver sustained improvement in complex settings. A confident and collaborative leader, you will influence at senior level while engaging authentically with communities and stakeholders.

You will be values‑driven, pragmatic and resilient, with the ability to inspire high‑performing teams and navigate a unique operating context. Above all, you will be motivated by purpose—energised by the opportunity to make a lasting difference in a place where your contribution will be felt every day.
